h2g2 is an online
encyclopedia and community that launched in April 1999, and was taken over by
the BBC in 2001. I joined the site in February 2004 and have written more than
a hundred entries for h2g2's Approved Guide (previously referred to as the
Edited Guide). In January 2011, the BBC announced their intention to 'dispose'
of the site to a third party. Since then, h2g2 has been rescued by a combination
of volunteers and philanthropists.
